The Pilates Artistry Teacher Training Program offers trainees the intensive study experience they need to become confident, qualified instructors with the ability to tailor Pilates sessions to individual needs. We pride ourselves on teaching students the “why” AND the “how.” Our program is infused with the anatomy of the ever-changing understanding of the human body and unique movement coaching skills from the Pilates lineage.

We strive to incorporate the historical context of Pilates with the in-depth anatomical study, kinematics, the 7 learning styles, and excellent hands-on cueing. Graduating well-prepared, critical-thinking teachers who can work with any student is our main objective.

Applicants must conduct an in-person interview, have at least one year of Pilates experience (including at least 10 mat classes), and complete a minimum of 10 preparatory Pilates sessions at Pilates Artistry. Class costs are not included in the tuition.

We offer a comprehensive Pilates diploma-based program drawing from many lineages of Pilates and integrating intensive anatomical study, biomechanics, visual skills and hands-on cueing. The program teaches the Pilates exercises through the lens of anatomy with particular attention to biomechanics and injury prevention. The Pilates Artistry Teacher Training Program strives to educate extremely efficient and confident teachers. Our small-group format (limit 10) offers an intensive mentoring experience that allows individuals to develop at their own pace to become highly qualified instructors.

The Comprehensive Teacher Training Program consists of 600 hours and includes Mat Pilates, Reformer, Wunda Chair, Cadillac, and Barrels. The training is a combination of lecture, practical time with supervision by the program director, Erin Lauer Johnson, as well as self-study, observation and apprentice teaching at the Pilates Artistry studio in Roscoe Village, Chicago.

In the program, you will learn the core concepts of Pilates, the historical Pilates exercise system, and train your eyes and hands to help clients modify movements for different body types, learning styles, and limitations. Our small group training focuses on meeting the clients where they are at and learning how to progress clients safely. You will learn about common injuries and develop the skills to tailor sessions and classes to meet every individual’s needs.

Erin Lauer Johnson, PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher, is a movement educator bringing over 1,000 hours of Pilates study together to marry an intellectual and athletic approach to teaching.
